Zinzi at Tsala Treetop Lodge
HUNTER’S ESTATE, N2
Zinzi sits high in the forest at Hunter’s Estate — the Tsala Treetop Lodge restaurant that turned a setting into a signature. The architecture is the first arrival: open, elevated, designed to bring the trees into the room rather than fence them out.
The menu is international in scope but African in instinct. The head chef works with what the season gives the coast and the Garden Route, building plates that draw from global techniques while staying tethered to place. Menus shift through the year. What lands on the plate is what’s worth eating right now.
The wine cellar leans into South Africa’s range — crisp coastal Sauvignon Blancs, dense Stellenbosch reds, smaller producers worth knowing about. It’s a list that rewards a longer conversation with whoever’s serving.
A Zinzi visit can be many things: sun-downers on the deck while the forest darkens, a long lazy lunch that runs into the afternoon, a special evening that earns the drive. The service moves with whichever you’re after — attentive when it needs to be, invisible when it doesn’t.
It’s consistently rated among Plett’s best, and the rating isn’t generous. It’s correct.
